Thesis of Research
How can the inner psychological connection of an actor to a character be awakened and strengthened through specific physical exploration of text?
Action Research Application
Over three two-hour sessions four actors and I have explored this research question. These sessions were specifically designed using the concepts of Michael Chekhov’s ‘psychological gesture’, Rudolf Steiner’s approach to text with ‘eurythmy’, and Rudolf Laban’s motion factors of weight, space, and time. Combining these elements I propose to form a new path exploring the psychology of character and text through the physical body.
During a research demonstration sharing, we opened up a small glimpse into the beginning threads of this research. If you have further enquiries or insights into this line of research please feel free to contact me(LinkContact).
“Each phase of movement, every small transference of weight, every single gesture of any part of the body reveals some feature of our inner life”
Rudolf Laban, The Mastery of Movement
Many thanks to the actors Duncan MacDonell, Tania Taylor, Patrick Toomey, and Rebecca Tremain for giving their time during a hectic term.
In addition, I would like to thank Anna Terry and Ayse Tashkiran for arranging space to complete this research. A warm thanks goes to Ken Mizutani and Roberto Puzone for making the research documentation possible.
